Mission Statement
To develop an alternative and independent framework for peace and security studies in South Asia
Who We Are
The Institute conducts independent research on conventional and non-conventional security issues in the region and shares its findings with policy makers and the public. It provides a forum for discussion with the strategic community on strategic issues and strives to explore alternatives. Moreover, it works towards building capacity among young scholars for greater refinement of their analyses of South Asian security.
Through close interaction with leading strategic thinkers, former members of the the Indian Administrative Service, the Foreign Service and the Armed Forces, the academic community as well as the media, IPCS has contributed to the strategic discourse in India. Its Executive Committee reflects a mix of experience and expertise and is currently headed by Mr. Eric Gonsalves, former Indian Foreign Secretary to the Government.
The Institute fulfills its objectives through the following activities:

Maintenance of a national security website. It is the first interactive web-site in India devoted to South Asian security issues

Organizing debates in small groups comprising of leading opinion makers on issues of current strategic interest and summarizing and publishing their conclusions on the website.

Participating in seminars and discussions in India and abroad.

Publishing its research findings in journals and newspapers in India and abroad

Periodically brining out Research Papers and Issue Briefs as well as providing opinion pieces and documentation on current issues of relevance to national and international security

Interacting with the media and taking part in radio and television discussions

Hosting and briefing foreign visitors and think tanks during their visits to India

Publication of books, periodicals, and online articles
Currently, the Institute focuses on the following research subjects, and looks forward to expanding this list in the coming years:
Commitment to Independence
The IPCS is dedicated to independent, non-partisan research and analysis. While IPCS receives funding from various government agencies and private sources, its policy recommendations do not subscribe to any particular political views or interests.
